NEWPORT — After more than four decades of doing business in Newport, Zamora Jewelers is closing its doors. Owners Mike and Betty Zamora have operated their jewelry store in several locations around town. They were originally located in a building on Hurbert Street in the city center area, just west of Highway 101. From there they moved just a short distance away and had Highway 101 frontage. But parking was an issue along Newport’s busy Coast Highway. “We had a going out of business sale, we put everything in storage, and we started looking up and down the coast for another location,” Betty Zamora recalled. They ended up going to Whaler’s Village in north Newport, and then in the early 1990s, space became available at their current location in Sea Towne Plaza. “When this spot came open, we jumped on it because this was a going concern back then.” And they have remained at Sea Towne — 1682 N Coast Highway — since that time.
