More than 75 art quilt entries were received from 45 artists in five countries, for Gems of the Ocean II, a juried art quilt show produced by Polly Plumb Productions.

An exhibition of the art quilts will be held Feb. 14-16 in the Yachats Commons located along Highway 101 in Yachats.

The show offers four prizes totaling $2,000: first place is $1,000, second place is $500, third place is $250 and a Viewer’s Choice Award of $250 will be presented. Final judging will be made during the show by a panel of artists and dignitaries.

The Gems of the Ocean Art Quilt Show was the brainchild of Yachats artist and retired Polly Plumb Productions board member Ruth Bass. An art quilter, Bass has been active in the art quilt world and has shared her knowledge and contacts to bring high caliber shows to Yachats.

“One of the goals of the show is to introduce art quilting to both locals and visitors to the area,” said Bass. “We thought the ocean theme would allow artists to explore the beauty of this area and make interpretations based on their own whimsy. We’re delighted to bring this type of show to Yachats, and we welcome everyone to experience an art quilt show.”

All selected entries will be on display during the Art Quilt show running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday through Sunday, Feb. 14-16, in the Yachats Commons multi-purpose room. Admission is a suggested donation of $5.
