Ocean Blue Project to host beach clean up

NEWPORT — Ocean Blue Project is celebrating World Oceans Day on Nye Beach, where the nonprofit was founded years ago, with an annual beach cleanup.

The cleanup will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on June 8 at Nye Beach in Newport and will be focused on a community-led effort. Ocean Blue will provide everything volunteers will need to collect debris and dispose of it responsibly, however they ask that participants bring their own reusable water bottle to stay hydrated and dress for the weather.

As always, efforts will be made to remove as much man-made debris as possible while leaving natural debris like shells and driftwood. Sorting plastic, cans, glass bottles and other debris collected is encouraged so that the most recycling possible can be done.

For more information, contact Karisa Boyce at 541-714-0237 or [email protected], or visit — where an RSVP for the free event can also be made.
