Women’s march planning in Newport

A local effort is underway to unite against the Trump Administration’s plan to fill Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s U.S. Supreme Court seat. Trump has nominated Judge Amy Coney Barrett to fill that position, which requires confirmation by the U.S. Senate.

Central Oregon Coast NOW is sponsoring a march/rally event on Saturday, Oct 17, at 10 a.m. at Newport City Hall, 169 SW Coast Highway 101. Those attending should wear a mask, socially distance and bring signs.

Rhonda Harman, local NOW member and Newport community activist, will give the welcome, followed by speaker CM Hall, a NOW member. An open mic session will be offered to encourage community members to voice their concerns.

This will be the third Women’s March in Newport. The first one in 2017, the day after Trump was installed as president, drew a crowd of more than 1,600 people. This year’s march in Newport will coincide with the National Women’s March on Oct. 17 in communities across the nation.
