Valerie Sue Vadakin, 56, formerly of Florence (primarily of Yachats and Waldport), passed away with her family at her side, November 22, 2017.
Val was an Oregon Coast native through and through, born in Florence on July 23, 1961. She spent her childhood combing the beach, driving the dunes, and hunting and fishing with her dad and brother. She enjoyed trips back to the family farm in Aumsville, where she learned to snap beans and shuck corn with her grandmother, and gained an appreciation for rocks and gems from her grandfather.
Val was excellently eccentric. She loved night rides for low tides, and hunting for agates by flashlight, preferring the solace of a beach free from tourists, families, and dogs. She adored her cats, her garden, and her family. She had great friends, and loved good food and bass-heavy music. Val could be found cruising Highway 101 with her stereo system cranked and windows cracked, shrugging her shoulders to the bass thumping from the subs in the back.
She was a free spirit with a generous, loving heart. Val lived how she wanted, and only wanted the best. She was known to surprise her friends and family with gifts. If she found something she loved, everyone she loved would have one had one as well. Val will be remembered for her caring nature, quirky sense of humor, and her magnificently meticulous ways.
Valerie is survived by her significant other Troy Remington, daughters Carly and Chelsey Remington, and Chelsea Vadakin, her brother Brian Lewis, and parents Jerry Lewis and Janis Hahl. Memorial services will take place after the New Year. Date, time, and location are yet to be determined.
