LINCOLN CITY — The Taft Tigers wrestling team traveled to the Bob Bishop Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 28, placing eighth out of a total of 15 teams.
“Very tough tournament with returning state champs LaPine and several other top teams in 3A. It was one of the most competitive tournaments we will compete in this year,” Taft wrestling head coach Robb Ellis said.
Arnoldo Ortiz finished in fourth place at 126 pounds, Jose Flores finished fourth as well at 120 pounds, Riley Ellis received a fifth place award for the 152-pound weight class and Bane Brown got fifth place at 285 pounds.
Kaden Byrum and William Calderon both finished in sixth place at 106 and 145 pounds respectively.
“Calderon injured his ankle part way through the tournament,” Ellis said. “If he had been able to continue wrestling, we likely would have finished a place or two higher.”
