Tiger track breaks the ice in Sherwood

SHERWOOD — Taft traveled to the nine-way Sherwood Ice Breaker Wednesday, March 13, as the Tiger track and field squad tested its skills under pressure from top teams around the state.

On the oval and in the field were powerhouse teams from C.S. Lewis Academy, Damascus Christian, Delphian, Lakewood, Reynolds, Sherwood, Southwest Christian and St. Stephen’s Academy.

Taft clocked some top scores at the event, including Kaden Wright’s 4th place in the Mens’ 100 meters, one second off the leader at 12.13 in a class of 94 runners. Aubrey Sciarotta was 6th in a field of 62 with 14.24 time, while Rylee Senner was 10th with 14.47.

Jacob Mayoral took 6th in the Mens’ 400 m., 57.22, about 3 seconds off the leader. Jaelyn Olmeda was mid-pack at 9th with 1:10.47 for the women.

Taft girls (Aubrey Sciarrotta, Mathews Divine, Rylee Senner, Kayla Brown) took 3rd place in the 4X400 Relay with a time of 58.57, behind leader Lakeridge, 54.98.

Taft men (Kaden Wright, Mateo-Perez Brayan, William Calderon, logan McClendon) were 3rd in Mens’ 4x100, 48.47 behind leader Lakeridge, 45.95.

From a field of 49 women, Maleah Smith launched a 4kg shot 27-07.50 ft. to take 8th in shot put. Elizabeth Kirkendall hurled the discus to 8th place, 67-01 ft., short of the 86-10 ft. leader.

High-jumper Kadence James shared a four-way tie for 2nd place in the Womens’ high jump, reaching 4-08, two inches shy of the 4-10 leader. Kayla Brown was 1st place with 6-06.00 as the only contender in the pole vault.

Mad Scott was 3rd in a field of over 40 athletes for the 12 lb. Mens’ shot put, achieving 36-06; 1st place Noah Culbertson of Sherwood who lobbed the cannonball 54-01. Degan Sawyer of Taft was 10th, with 31-04. Tristan Beach took 8th in 1.6 kg discus, while Scott took 9th, 93-10 (winner Sherwood, 142-10).

Taft travels to Scio Thursday, March 21, for another “icebreaker” at Scio, 3:30 p.m.
