In August 2019, the Newport Food Pantry Operation Snackpacks program was awarded a very generous $2,000 to help feed hungry school children on the weekends during the 2019-20 school year.
Children who live in food insecure environments struggle at school with problems concentrating and participating. Snackpack programs help alleviate those issues by providing food for the weekend so that those children can return to their classrooms ready to learn. Thanks to the Confederated Tribes of Siletz and other generous donors, we were able to provide food for all five schools in Newport.
On May 13, we got a delightful surprise when the Confederated Tribes of Siletz awarded the Newport Food Pantry another generous $2,000 to help feed people during the COVID-19 pandemic. So many have been laid off or terminated from their jobs and are turning to food pantries for much needed food during this crisis. Words cannot express our deep appreciation for this assistance in providing nutrition for those who are struggling.
