A great love story between Georgia and Sven ‘Jerry’ Roslund ended its final chapter on February 17. Their lives came together in the late 50’s at WSU in Pullman, Washington. They shared nuptials on April 26, 1959 in Tacoma, Washington which commenced an active shared life of many diverse activities. During the 60’s Drew Roslund (Kristin), Wendy Inkster (Jim) and Erica Roslund (Roger) completed the family and perpetuate the family today along with three grandchildren, Riley, Cooper and Lily.
Georgia and Jerry were born 11 days apart starting with Georgia on March 31, 1935 in Tacoma Washington to James and Vesta Sutton. Jerry was born on April 10 in Philadelphia to Swedish immigrant parents John and Rubie Roslund. Jerry’s family moved to Portland in 1948 where he graduated from Lincoln High School. Georgia graduated from Stadium HS in Tacoma.
Prior to starting his business career, Jerry spent 6 months in basic training at Fort Ord and then served on reserve for the Oregon Air National Guard. After a brief stint managing hotels in Santa Barbara, Jerry began his entrepreneurial career as a sales agent for 18 years selling industrial textiles while Georgia raised the family. They successfully grew a Christmas tree farm, built and operated a grocery store in West Union, Oregon, and built and operated apartment complexes and light industrial properties in Hillsboro and office buildings in Portland. Ultimately they owned and operated the Fireside Motel and built the Overleaf Lodge in Yachats, Oregon. Jerry remained an active participant in the development of these properties and both lodging properties continue to be owned and operated by family today. Jerry was the visionary and Georgia provided the support and energy for success. It was a perfect combination and wonderful love story.
Jerry’s life mantras were: “It is what it Is”. “One foe is too many and 100 friends too few.” “Today is a Present, enjoy it fully.” Georgia’s was very simple: “Whatever it takes for the family to thrive and be happy!”
Jerry and Georgia are together and both desire to be in the company of their parents once again. No service is planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Boys and Girls Aid Society of Oregon or the Kids Center in Bend, Oregon.
