Music festival runs for 16 days

The Siletz Bay Music Festival returns for the ninth year on June 19, with performances from 65 musicians over the course of 16 days.

From jazz to symphonic works, the romantic to the comedic — this festival has a show for everyone. Each of the 15 concerts is themed and features world class musicians on the coastal stage for all to enjoy.

The biggest concert of the series will be held on June 30: the Festival Benefit Concert will feature classic, big band arrangements performed by the Swing Shift Jazz Orchestra and special guest jazz vocalists, Clairdee and Charles Turner, pianist Rossano Sportiello, bassist Dave Captein and drummer Gary Hobbs, under the leadership of clarinetist Ken Peplowski. The benefit concert helps to secure the future of the festival while treating patrons to fantastic food and ballroom dancing, in addition to the music.

Peplowski, nicknamed “the living Benny Goodman,” is a star of the show this year, performing in four different concerts across the 16-day span of the festival: on June 24, June 30, July 1 and July 2. Other highly anticipated artists include award-winning violinist Sarah Kwak and critically acclaimed pianist Mei-Ting Sun.

The 15 concerts range in price: four performances are $25 per seat, six are $40 each, two are $55 each and the benefit concert is $150 per attendee. However, there are also two free concerts, including the Young People’s Concert on July 1.

Seating at these performances is limited, but that’s not a worry for those willing to put in a donation of $1,000. For donors of $1,000 or more, the festival offers VIP lanyards, which ensure the wearer admission to all 15 concerts, premium seating at the Salishan Long House concerts, an invitation to the sponsors and musicians recognition dinner at Salishan on July 3 and a donor listing in the nightly concert program.

Tickets for some events have already sold out, and the rest won’t last long. Tickets and lanyards can be purchased by phone at 541-264-5828, by email at [email protected] or online at siletzbaymusic.org, where a full calendar of events and information on the festival and the performers can be found.
