Shrimp fishermen gear up for another late start

NEWPORT — Oregon’s pink shrimp fishermen are hoping for a rebound when the season opens next month, after suffering through two years of decreases in landings following five consecutive events of netting between 40-and 50-million pounds each. The scheduled April 1 openings during the last two seasons were delayed into May due to stalled price negotiations between processors and fishermen, which also gave the shrimp more time to mature and the offshore weather to improve.
