Sharon G. Nielsen died peacefully in her sleep on June 2, 2018, at her home in Corvallis.
Sharon was a Newport resident in the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s, working many administrative and office jobs, including the Bank of Newport, Pacific Communities Hospital, and Dr. Peter Cookson. She also lived in Los Angeles, Whitehorse Yukon Territory, Yuma, AZ, Independence, OR, before settling in Corvallis, where she retire after being employed at NW Industrial sheet metal, in Albany. Ironically, Sharon was born in Corvallis too.
Sharon is survived by her grandson Jack Waghorn of Eugene; brothers: Vern Bates (Rita) of Henderson, NV, Randy Bates (Becky) of Vancouver, WA, Bud Swift (Mary) of Corvallis and Larnaca, Cyprus; nieces: Korina Swift of Vancouver, WA, Jana Seyler of Oregon City; nephews: Jason Bates of Round Rock, TX, Mathew Swift (aunty says “Raisins”) of Castle Rock, WA. Sharon is preceded in death by her daughter Michelle “Misi” Nielsen (2007); mother Vi Swift (1996), and stepdad Don Swift (2009).
Sharon loved camping, playing cards, and nearly any Arts and Craft project. Sharon was quick to volunteer wherever she was needed, and wasn’t afraid to get dirty. She was active with the Lincoln County Fair and Rodeo Court in the 80’s. Sharon had an infectious laugh and enjoyed doing things for others.
A Celebration of Sharon’s Life will be held at 3PM on June 25, 2018 at the Tunison Community Room, in Southwest Corvallis. Call Bud Swift @ 503-381-6867 for details and directions.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Habitat for Humanity, in Sharon’s name.
