September is National Preparedness Month

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Lincoln County Public Health are helping to promote and locally support the 2019 National Preparedness Month campaign.

This September, National Preparedness Month will focus on planning, with the overarching theme “Prepared, Not Scared.”

On Saturday, Sept. 21, these county organizations will join with Northwest Natural and the American Red Cross to host the Get Ready Lincoln County Readiness Fair event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lincoln County Commons (fairgrounds), located at 633 NE Third St. in Newport. This event will have hands-on demonstrations to help increase community member skills on things like how to use a fire extinguisher, shut off your utilities, purify your own water, heat up food under limited conditions, build your own emergency go kit, be financially prepared and more.

The weekly themes for the 2019 National Preparedness Month are:

  • Week 1:  Sept. 1-7 — Save Early for Disaster Costs;
  • Week 2:  Sept. 8-14 — Make a Plan to Prepare for Disasters;
  • Week 3:  Sept. 15-21 — Teach Youth to Prepare for Disasters;
  • Week 4:  Sept. 22-30 — Get Involved in Your Community’s Preparedness
