Scrimmage gets real

There are no pads in the game of 7-on-7, where everyone’s eligible and a tag is as good as a tackle. But at the Wednesday scrimmage between Taft and Toledo high schools, even those skimpy rules went out the window as beefed-up linemen rose to interceptions, and runners sometimes found themselves at the bottom of a gang pile.

“It’s gonna’ happen,” reasoned one player from the sidelines. “Football’s football, and instincts take over.”

Lincoln County high schools are practicing through the summer for games that start in late August.
