Romelle Rose Manske, 76, died Sunday Feb 16, 2019 at Newport Hospital with her husband Tom by her side.
Mell was born May 2, 1942 in Denver, Colorado, to Phil and Birgit Matchey. She graduated high school from House of the Good Shepard in Helena, Montana in 1960.
She was a retired employee of the Idaho State Tax Commission and a longtime military wife to her loving husband Tom, whom she married December 12, 1973. They moved all over the world finally settling in Lewiston, Idaho, for the rest of their working careers.
After retirement, they moved to Waldport, Oregon. While stationed in Okinawa Japan, she was able to spend two weeks with a Chinese co-worker in China. That was a real thrill for her. Staying in her friend’s home gave her a real sense of the culture.
She loved to travel, especially when out of the military. Two trips to Canada, then Yellowstone, Wisconsin, North Dakota, N. Carolina, Maine, Washington, Idaho, Utah and Mesa Verde to name a few.
Mell also enjoyed cooking and spending time with her 4 children and her 11 grandchildren. She also enjoyed going to bingo, hitting the casino for a night out and really loved strolling the beach looking for agates and glass fishing floats.
She was a devout Catholic and a member of the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
Surviving are Mell’s husband Tom; her sister, Phyllis; her daughter, Patty Ausman; three sons, Dennis, Jim and Mike; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceeded in death by both her parents and her brothers Ed Matchey and Robert Matchey.
The celebration of life will be held at 6PM on May 25th at Georgie’s Beach Side Grill in Newport Oregon.
