Police dive in Yaquina Bay searching for missing fisherman

NEWPORT — Norman Grant, of Crescent City, has been missing since Saturday, Feb. 8, his uncle, Dennis Wentworth, told the News-Times.

Wentworth was adamant that Grant would have shown up for work if he was able. The family is distraught and fears that he fell in the bay, he said.

Newport Police Chief Jason Malloy said that there is little information to pass on at this time.

“Mr. Grant was reported missing on Feb. 9, 2020, at 12:20 p.m.,” said Malloy.He was last seen on Feb. 8, 2020, around 7:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Southwest Bay Blvd.”

“He was reported as intoxicated and believed to be walking to [the boat he worked on,] the F/V Prolifik, which was moored at 367 SW Bay Blvd,” Malloy added.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office helped coordinate a dive team from Linn County Sheriff’s Office, which searched Yaquina Bay with no result.

“Mr. Grant is listed as a missing person, and the investigation remains open,” Malloy said.
