After extensive interviews of local candidates conducted by the Lincoln County Steering Committee of the Oregon League of Conservation Voters, the organization has endorsed a group of candidates with strong environmental positions.
The league is endorsing Rep. David Gomberg, who they say has never slowed down in his support of his constituents in spite of COVID-19 and massive fires, adding that he has taken strong environmental positions.
For the county commission seat, the league is endorsing incumbent Claire Hall, who they say has been an advocate for protecting the county’s delicate environment and has been a strong supporter of environmental justice.
Sandy Roumagoux, candidate for mayor of Newport, has also been endorsed. The group says she has always been an advocate for critical environmental policies, including initiating the Big Creek Dam project to protect the city’s water supply long term.
For the three open Newport City Council seats, the league is endorsing incumbents Beatriz Botello, Dietmar Goebel and Cynthia Jacobi, who they believe have earned the right through their actions to retain these seats for the next four years.
