The Oregon Coast Chamber Orchestra opens the 2019-2020 season on Nov. 15 in Yachats with a romp through “Merrie England.” The first half of the concert is all English, with selections from three 20th century composers: “Four Ways Suite” by Eric Coates, “A Moorside Suite” by Gustav Holst and “Merrie England” by Edward German.
English jazz composer Marion Mac Partland sets up the second half of the program with “There’ll be Other Times,” followed by a medley from Irish-themed “Finian’s Rainbow” by Burton Lane.
The mood turns Latin with “How Insensitive” by Antonio Carlos Jobim. John Stone on trumpet celebrates “The Sight of You” by Durvall Ferriara, and the late, great Charlie Perkins ponders “Little Things.” The performance closes with a speed-reading of classical favorites in “The Lone Ar-ranger” by Philip Butall.
Audiences are invited to join in on Friday Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. at Yachats Presbyterian Church, 360 W 7th St., Yachats. Tickets for adults are $10; children under 10 and students can attend for free. Visit OCCO.org for more information.
