Four local theater companies (Coastal Act Productions, New Visions Arts, Porthole Players and Red Octopus Theatre Company) are joining together for a new series to benefit the Entertain the Future! Capital Campaign at the Newport Performing Arts Center.
“One Night Delights” will bring the concept of a monthly reader’s theater (with a twist) to the David Ogden Stiers Theatre at the PAC. Each one night performance will be accompanied with a “delight,” a dessert or savory treat as part of the ticket price.
Reader’s Theatre is a proud American tradition and a great way to savor a playwright’s work. Actors carry their scripts and tell the story using their voice and posture to convey emotion. The absence of elaborate sets and costumes puts the emphasis on the words and each performer's oral interpretation of their character.
These presentations will take place on the third Wednesday of the month, with the first performance happening on April 17. It will feature Joseph Kesselring’s “Arsenic and Old Lace,” presented by the Porthole Players and directed by Shawn Brateng.
The series will continue on May 15 with a performance of Sam Shepard’s “True West,” presented by the Red Octopus Theatre Company and directed by Ron Miller.
General admission tickets are $15, plus fees and are available through the OCCA Box Office, 541-265-2787.
