Jane George, 86, of Newport died on February 1, 2018 at Oceanview Senior Living in Newport. Jane was born to Frank and Lila O’Connor on September 17, 1931 in Sioux City, Iowa. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy High School in Portland and later moved to Depoe Bay. She met John George while working as a waitress at the Reef Restaurant and they married in 1952.
The Georges settled and raised their family on the central Oregon coast, living in Depoe Bay until the 1980s and residing thereafter in Newport. Jane was employed in various positions in the community. She worked for the Lincoln County School District, the Lincoln County Mental Health Clinic and the Lincoln County District Court over the years. She loved reading, playing cards and playing tennis, avidly following professional tennis matches. Jane was a devoted patron of the Newport City Library for many years and an active member of the Newport Senior Center. In recent years, the library outreach program, which provided the delivery of books, DVDs and magazines to her home, enriched her life. She truly enjoyed and looked forward to the visits with the outreach librarian.
Survivors include a son, Michael George and daughter-in-law Tomi Marsh of Ketchikan, Alaska; daughters, Nancy George of Seattle, Washington, Jill George of Spokane, Washington and Becky George and son-in-law Scott Spinak of Santa Cruz, California; three grandchildren, Daemon Vergo and Sam and Nick Spinak; and two great grandchildren Michaela and Daemon Vergo. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, John George and her sisters Mary Ann Kavet and Patty Danaher.
