No Price No Product

Shrimp boats are tied up in Newport and south along the coast into Northern California as price negotiations with processors continue. The season started April 1 and runs through October.

“Newport, Coos Bay, Brookings, Crescent City, Eureka and Fort Bragg are all tied up in support of a price structure that reflects the current market conditions,” said Nick Edwards, owner of the Coos Bay shrimper Carter Jon.

Shrimp trawlers last year had a May start in catching a product that netted around $72 cents per pound. Fishermen predict a decent crop of larger shrimp this year.
