Newport’s 23rd annual Glass Float Hunt begins

The Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce has launched its 23rd annual Glass Float Hunt, which runs through Dec. 31 at participating businesses.

The 23rd annual Glass Float Hunt, sponsored by the Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce, got underway this week, providing people with an opportunity to win one of the original commemorative glass floats given away by Newport merchants this winter. No stormy beachcombing or wave dodging are required to find one of these luminous artisan collectibles, hand-blown by Oregon Coast Glassworks and The Edge Art Gallery in Newport.

The rules for the treasure hunt are simple. From now until Dec. 31, visit one of the businesses listed at, or on a map available from the Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce (541-265-8801). Fill out an entry form and return it to the float display at the business. Enter at any or all of the merchants. Winners will be announced after Dec. 31, when each business will select winning names from its entry pool.

Eighteen local businesses will be participating in the Glass Float Hunt, ranging from restaurants and lodging, to retail shops of all kinds.

The Glass Float Hunt was designed to introduce Northwest travelers to the distinctive value season in Newport, a time when slower traffic, great sales at various kinds of businesses and fantastic lodging deals come together to create a unique time of year — especially for those looking to do some holiday shopping in a more relaxed environment. All of that is also accompanied by the always-spectacular storm watch season.

The Newport Chamber is encouraging all float hunters to observe COVID-19 travel and safety regulations, including wearing face coverings and social distancing.
