Newport Youth Symphony to perform winter concert

The Newport Youth Symphony on the Oregon Coast will present its annual winter concert on Monday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. at the Newport First Presbyterian Church, 227 NE 12th St. Co-directors of the orchestra Barbara Wilcox and Kathy Follett will preside.

A performance by The Family Strings program of the Newport Symphony will open the program. Mindy Simon will lead students from Sam Case Elementary School in several musical selections.

Next will come “Overture Strings,” two chamber ensembles of younger students of violin, viola and cello, directed by Wilcox. They will present several pieces and then be joined by more experienced players to perform the popular songs “River Flows in You” and “Hallelujah.”

Youth symphony members will close the program with works by Purcell, Faure, and Haydn. Follett will direct.

The concert is free and open to the public, although donations are welcome. For more information, contact the Newport Symphony Office at 541-574-0614 or [email protected]
