Newport sailing shows improvement, earns spot at districts


HOOD RIVER — The Newport sailing team punched its ticket to the Northwest Sailing Interscholastic Sailing Association District Championship with its performance in the Columbia River Gorge at the Forrest Cook Regatta on April 6-7. Over 105 sailors on 23 teams from 12 different high schools competed in the 28-race, two-day regatta. Newport’s team of Ronan Krutzikowsky and Sara Tornelli competed in the Gold Fleet A-Division and had the best finish of all the Gold Fleet teams with a score of 21, beating out Oregon Episcopal (22) and Hood River Valley (24).
