The Newport City Council recently made the decision to furlough all nonrepresented employees for 12 days. To accomplish this, the Newport Public Library will be closed on Fridays through July 24. The furlough decision resulted from revenue losses associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.
The furlough means that non-represented employees will not be paid for the 12 furlough days. This will result in a cost-savings of approximately $235,000 for the city. Questions may be directed to Peggy Hawker, at [email protected], or at 541-574-0613.
While the Newport Public Library is included in phase two of the reopening plan, the facility will not be reopened until modifications are made to the building. In the meantime, the Newport Public Library is offering limited check-out services in the form of Library Take Out. Patrons with library cards in good standing may place holds online or over the phone. Library staff will check out items on the associated card, and patrons may make an appointment to pick items up following health-conscious guidelines.
The staff is available to help library users via email or phone. Questions can be directed to Library staff, at 541-265-2153, Monday through Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., or by email at [email protected] Calls and emails sent during the weekend will not be addressed until Monday.
