The Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce Hospitality Committee has named Summer Pilgrim as the January 2019 Employee of the Month.

Pilgrim is a junior loan officer at TLC Federal Credit Union. She has worked there for almost nine years and moved into her current position last August.

Shannon Jaus-Betanzo, coworker of Pilgrim, nominated her for the award. “Summer is always willing to help our members no matter how busy she is,” said Jaus-Betanzo. “She listens to their stories and really tries to find the best way to help them. As a coworker, I can always go to her with questions, and she helps me find the answers. She is always happy and smiling. Our members love her.”

Pilgrim’s manager, Amy Peterson, said, “Summer is well known in our community with her volunteerism and has taught financial education at our local high school. She is active in raising money for Doernbecher for kids through various bake sales at the Newport branch. Summer’s qualities include her amazing listening skills to our members and being willing to help both members and coworkers at any given moment. Summer is a joy to be around and seriously has the best laugh ever.”

Pilgrim is one of the 12 nominees who are eligible to win the Employee of the Year Award, the winner of which will be announced at the chamber’s annual “Know your Newport” Hospitality and Sales Training Seminar and Tradeshow in May. Chamber officials said great customer service is essential to the coastal economy, and the chamber recognizes the important role of front line employees.

Nomination forms can be found online at or by calling the chamber office at 541-265-8801.
