The Newport Chamber of Commerce Hospitality Committee recently announced that the February Employee of the Month was Paul Wedertz, who works at the Best Western Plus Agate Beach Inn.
Wedertz has worked as a dishwasher and pantry worker at the Best Western for nearly eight years. Best Western General Manager Judy Kuhl, who nominated Wedertz for the award, said he is highly valued by the staff at the Best Western and is a great employee. She said he goes above and beyond with his job, always willing to do extra shifts and whatever is asked of him. Kuhl explained that the dishwashing machine at the Best Western broke at the end of December. For an entire month, all dishes had to be cleaned by hand in the three-sink procedure, but rather than complaining, Wedertz kept an upbeat attitude. “Above all, he is proud to say he works at the Best Western, and is very deserving of this award,” said Kuhl.
Wedertz will be one of the 12 people who are entered for the Employee of the Year Award, which will be announced at the chamber’s annual “Know your Newport” Hospitality and Sales Training Seminar and Tradeshow in May. Chamber officials said great customer service is essential to the coastal economy, and so the chamber recognizes the important role of front line employees.
