The Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce recently announced the Employee of the Month for December, Jason Masters, who is an attendant at the Chevron gas station by Newport City Hall. He has worked there for two years and is recognized by many as an outstanding employee.

The selection for the Employee of the Month is based on four points of criteria: quality of service, friendliness, knowledge of the area and being a role model for other employees. Masters has all of these qualities and, above all, an outstanding attitude, according Debby Miller, from Bateman Funeral Home, who nominated him for this award.

Miller said that Masters “always has a positive spin on anything. He's prompt when people pull up to the pumps. He never complains whether the weather is hot, cold, rainy, windy, whatever. He's just so thrilled to serve his customers. A person like Jason welcomes people to our community and gives them such a great impression of what Newport is all about.”

Masters will be one of the 12 people who are entered for the Employee of the Year award, which will be announced at the annual “Know your Newport” Hospitality and Sales Training Seminar and Tradeshow in May.

Great customer service is essential to the coastal economy, chamber officials said. Anyone wanting to nominate someone for Employee of the Month can find a form online at, or call the chamber office at 541-265-8801.
