The Newport Booster Club will be premiering its 21st annual banquet virtually this year on their YouTube account, Newport Boosters Club. The video banquet link will be published on Newport Booster’s social media accounts, both on Facebook and Instagram, as well as an email to all booster members and raffle ticket holders with a direct link to the banquet.
As in year’s past, the annual banquet will be celebrating the booster’s accomplishments for the year, as well as recognizing individuals in the community for their contributions to the Newport Booster Club.
“We’ve been holding an annual booster banquet for the last 20 years, but because of COVID, we had to pivot so we could uphold our tradition and keep sports alive in our supporter’s hearts and minds during this time,” said Todd Thompson, president of the Newport Booster Club. “Sports will come back, it’s just a matter of when.”
In years past, the annual banquet also included a silent and live auction that raised funds for booster projects, financial support of Newport Middle School sports, and student athlete waiver fees. Last year, the Newport Booster Club raised more than $100,000 at the annual banquet to support their initiatives. Not only does the booster club fund projects to support athletic teams and player development, it also funds programs to support the student population’s wellbeing.
Since April, the club has raised $58,860 for a separate COVID-specific initiative, which translated to $50 JC Market gift cards given out to Newport families most in need. The cards were distributed through the local schools to supplement their food deficits during COVID due to loss of income.
Instead of a silent or live auction this year, the club is holding a raffle, where winners will be announced during the annual banquet premier Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. Raffle tickets, three for $25, can be purchased at Roby’s Furniture & Appliance, 5111 N Coast Highway, Newport, or from booster members. On each ticket, raffle ticket holders can choose from five raffle items: Electrolux Washer & Dryer from Roby’s, Weatherby Max-5 Shotgun donated by Oregon Coast Bank, TruFlask 120L Cooler w/Beer & Spirits plus $300 Newport Brewing gift card from Roby’s and Newport Brewing, Electric Trimmer and Blower along with a $500 Barrelhead Building Supply gift certificate given by John and Martha Voorhies, Jon and Darla Zagel and Barrelhead, or a Traeger Grill donated by Thompson’s Sanitary Service. Tickets need to be turned in at Roby’s by Oct. 19.
The Newport Booster Club is also encouraging virtual attendees to get takeout from this list of local restaurants who supplied their time, talents and products to provide all of the cuisine at the 2019 in-person banquet: Arr Place, Clearwater, Fish Tails Café, Lighthouse Deli @ South Beach Market, Ocean Bleu @ Gino’s, Local Ocean, Mo’s, Newport Brewing, Pacific Kitchen, Panini and Sorella.
