Newport 60+ Activity Center offers first virtual program

The Newport 60+ Activity Center is partnering with Marie Laper to offer a virtual program via Zoom, titled “Why am I Feeling this Way and What I Can Do: Building Resiliency during COVID.” The presentation and chat will be on Thursday, July 30, at 10 a.m.

Laper is a licensed clinical social worker with more than 30 years of experience in community health. She is currently working with seniors and people with disabilities as an older adult behavioral health specialist.

Laper is also a member of the 60+ Advisory Committee and the Newport Vision 2040 Advisory Committee, and she is enthusiastic about the future of seniors in Newport and Lincoln County.

In describing the virtual program, Laper said, “All of us are experiencing the pandemic. There are ups and downs, moments of smooth sailing and rough waters. Some of what we could count on months ago, we no longer can. Our feelings may be all over the place.” In her discussion, she will talk about what’s “normal” in times of crisis and offer tips and reminders of what people can do to stay physically and emotionally healthy.

People can register for this session online at www.newportoregon.gov/sc and click on the yellow banner and the 60+ Activities tab. A zoom link will be provided to those registered one day prior to the presentation.
