New parking study considers zones and metering

NEWPORT — The Newport Planning Commission is aiming to fix the parking problems in the city, considering a range of options that include economic improvement districts and possible metering. At a planning commission work session on Monday, Nov. 13, commission members discussed the issues related to parking and went over a draft of a parking study. Some of the key recommendations from the study include improving branding of city-owned parking lots and facilities, utilizing better signage and advertising, improving street lighting to create a better, safer walking environment and possibly implementing metered zones, permit zones or a hybrid of the two in the most highly-demanded Bayfront and Nye Beach districts.
