New lighthouse book mixes history and art

“The Lighthouses of Oregon Coloring and History Book” by Marcia Phillips, published this fall, covers all of the lighthouses of the Oregon Coast, including Lincoln County’s own Yaquina Head Lighthouse and a pair of Florence icons: Heceta Head Lighthouse and the Heceta Keeper’s House.

A combination of art and historical lore, it is designed to appeal to readers and creative artists of all ages. Marcia Phillips is a local artist and writer who worked for 30 years as a guide and ranger in the U.S. National Parks and other federal lands. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Calif., she escaped at the age of 21 to Washington state where she attended Western Washington University in Bellingham. There she learned the craft of nature study by combining field courses in biology, geology and geography. A fascination with landscape and a delight in sharing the wonder and beauty of our earthly home led her to develop skills in writing, drawing, and public speaking.

Phillips will make the book available throughout the entire length and breadth of the Oregon Coast. For information on how to obtain copies of the book see www.Drawing4Nature.com.
