Lincoln County Chapter 1113 of NARFE (National Active And Retired Federal Employees Association) is celebrating its 50th anniversary this month — this local group was chartered in May of 1969.
NARFE is the only organization dedicated to protecting the earned retirement benefits of federal employees, retirees and their survivors. Started in 1921 by 14 federal employees, the organization now is represented by a national office, state federation office and the local grass roots chapters. Legislative action on the national and state level is the main goal of the organization, and NARFE led a successful national campaign to repeal the Medicare Catastrophic Act and its accompanying surtax on millions of older Americans.
Chapter 1113 invites people to its anniversary party, which will be held at the Newport Shilo Inn on Wednesday, May 8. The meeting starts at noon with a no-host lunch ($14). Those wanting to attend are asked to RSVP by Sunday, May 6, by calling Jim Finlayson at 541-961-3994 or emailing [email protected].
NARFE meets on the second Wednesday of each month (except in July and August), with a lunch followed by a guest speaker and business meeting. The May 8 gathering will be a social meeting and also an opportunity to introduce NARFE to newcomers.
