Margaret (Maggie) Rose Collins died February 26, 2018 at the age of 62.
Maggie was born on April 23, 1955 in Wheeling, West Virginia. Her parents were Robert John Martin and Frances Ellen Cunningham Martin. Maggie moved several times during her childhood but spent many years in two areas, Wheeling, WV and Charleston, WV. She graduated from
St. Albans High School in WV in 1974, attending college at Fairmont State but moved to California in 1978 before getting her degree. She worked in banking most of her adult life. She moved to Ashland, Kentucky in 1981 to marry Randy Collins. As of the result of a car wreck, she became a paraplegic in 1984. She returned to work from rehab in 1985. In 1989 she attended Morehead State in Kentucky graduating in 1992 with an accounting degree. Randy and Maggie divorced in 1999 when she moved to Newport, Oregon to live with her mother. They lived well together for 16 years even with France’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis for 6 of those years. Maggie was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2015 and then moved to Beaverton, Oregon for treatment. She moved in and out of skilled nursing and assisted living with the ups and downs of battling cancer.
Her father Robert died in 1990 after 14 years with a brain injury. Frances, her mother, died in February, 2016 from Alzheimer’s complications. She is survived by her sister Mary Martin, brother Chris Martin, (Sue Goodwin), sister Sheila Hagan (Dan), brother Tom Martin (Diane), sister Carol Martin (Richard Medina Calderón), and brother Paul Martin. She has 13 nephews and nieces: Mollie, Rebecca, and Jon Baldridge (Kristy Blanchard); Nick Martin and Erin Herrero (Simon Chiu); Renee Goin (Mike); Blake and Jordan Hagan; Dana Ligitich (David), Malia Brehm (Harry); Jacob Pulido (Crystal), Thomas Martin; and Ellen Wenzel; as well as survived by 15 great nieces and nephews: Fiona and Owen O’Donnell, Mary Jane, Carter and Davin Baldridge; Emelyn Goin; Dylan and Luke Ligitich; Steffon and Hayley Trice; Joseph, Hayden, Ella and Zoey Pulido; and Taylor Barnes. Last but not least her beloved cat, Silver.
