NEWPORT — A 27-year-old Newport man has been indicted by a Lincoln County Grand Jury for a murder that occurred in late October at a home located in the 500 block of West Olive Street in Newport.
Ryan Steven Gaskins faces charges of murder, Assault II and strangulation (domestic violence) relating to the Oct. 27 homicide of Alexandra Prezioso, 34, who was living in Newport at the time she was killed.
Gaskins was Prezioso’s live-in boyfriend and had been identified as a person of interest shortly after her death. The indictment against Gaskins followed a three-part grand jury session, which began on Nov. 5.
Gaskins was already in custody at the Lincoln County Jail on unrelated charges at the time the grand jury handed down the indictment. On Thursday, he was arraigned on the above-mentioned charges in Lincoln County Circuit Court, and his bail has been set at $1 million.
Prezioso had been reported missing on Oct. 27 by a family member. When police officers responded to the original complaint, they learned that a family member discovered her home had been ransacked. While officers were on the scene investigating, Prezioso’s body was discovered, and her death was ruled as suspicious. An autopsy was later conducted, and it confirmed that she had died as a result of homicidal violence.
