April 7, 1945 – February 26, 2019
The oldest of six sisters, Linda was born at Emanuel Hospital and raised in southwest Portland. She spent her high school years in Bend, and following graduation, she attended Portland State University. Linda moved to San Francisco in 1966 and married Michael Morton in a ceremony held in Portland. Her first son Timothy was born in 1969. Linda spent several years in northern California, marrying Craig Hall in 1973 and giving birth to a second son, Arend, in 1974. After returning to Oregon, her daughter Brenna was born in 1976, and the family settled in Newport, Linda’s home for more than 35 years.
Linda was known for her kindness, warmth, and generosity. She loved her family deeply and could always be depended upon. The lifelong friendships that she forged touched many lives and she will be dearly missed. Linda was an exceptional cook, and many will fondly remember her baked goods in particular. Along with enjoying sewing and many artistic endeavors, Linda was a voracious reader with a broad knowledge of literature. Loving the outdoors and exploring every corner of her home state, she was fiercely independent and lived life on her own terms. Linda held a deep interest in her ancestry, traveling to Scotland, Sweden, and Denmark to explore her family history. Her travel adventures continued into her final years.
Linda passed away peacefully at OHSU Hospital. She is preceded in death by her parents, Archibald and Ferne McPhee of Beaverton, her sister Kathleen Zaleski of Alexandria, VA, and her daughter Brenna Hall of Sacramento. She is survived by her sisters Patricia, Karen, Colleen, and Lisa, all of the Portland metro area, sons Timothy of Santa Rosa and Arend of Corvallis, and granddaughter Isabella of Marysville, CA.
A celebration of life for Linda will be held on Sunday, April 7 at 1 PM, at the Yaquina Bay Yacht Club in Newport.
