City considers whale tail as new logo

LINCOLN CITY — A new effort to brand Lincoln County’s northernmost destination resort town has some officials smoldering in the nearby city of Depoe Bay, where a whale’s tail that embodies the quaint fishing village is being considered as Lincoln City’s new logo. “There aren’t any whales off Lincoln City,” asserted Depoe Bay City Councilman Jerome Grant, who said the whale design — one of several proposed by a Portland ad agency — is the spitting image of logos often used by the city and Depoe Bay Chamber of Commerce. “This is high-seas robbery. We’re the whale capital of Oregon, not them.”
