Jamboree helps ease the jitters before season starts

LINCOLN CITY — While Newport, Waldport, Siletz Valley and Eddyville all opened their basketball seasons on Wednesday, Nov. 29, Taft High School held a three-team jamboree before officially opening their first game on Friday. Taft, Toledo and Nestucca boys and girls teams all brought their varsity and junior varsity teams to play in a round-robin. Each team played each two, 12-minute halves, each one against a different team in an effort to dust off the rust before playing in games that count. “The reason I like to do that jamboree is it helps get the pre-game jitters out before an actual game,” said head coach Bart Rothenberger. “It was good to get everyone in, we got kids who are stepping up to the next level and this was their first taste of that level.”
