Jack Rice, 42, of Newport, Oregon passed away on August 30, 2018 after a tragic bicycle accident in Salem. A forest firefighter, creative writer, former yacht ships mate, musician, and a “jack of all trades”.
He was in the process of writing a book for children at the time of his passing. Jack loved to provide volunteer services.
He was born on April 30, 1976 in Orange, CA. He loved to travel, including living in Germany and San Diego but his heart resided in his hometown, Newport and Salem. A memorial service will be conducted at South Beach Church on September 9th, beginning at 2 pm. All who knew Jack or the family are welcome to attend. The address is 3335 S. Coast HWY, South Beach, Oregon.
Jack’s greatest gift to this world was his four wonderful and amazing children. Savannah (20), Joshua (18), Irisa (16), John (4 ½).
He was predeceased by his loving father, John Rice. He is survived by mothers of his children, Jessica, Beth and former wife Katie. He is also survived by his stepfather and mother, Gary and Shirley Irwin, his siblings Jason Rice, Jessica Rice, Grant Foote, and Bridgette Rice. He is also survived by his loving aunts, Jackie Finch and Beth Freiday, cousins Shelby Hahn, Sarah Veach, Jackie Reiss, Rebekah Turner, Anna Finch, and Patricia Finch. There are numerous cousins in Illinois, Florida and Carolina, too many to list, but definitely not forgotten.
Jack had an enormous, loving heart. He leaves behind a large footprint of beautiful and deep memories in the hearts of many.
