J. “Palmer” Smith of Lake Oswego died in Seattle Wednesday, November 1, 2017. Cherishing life, he fought to the end. The youngest of nine from Newport, Oregon, he played football for U. of O. While in the Coast Guard, Palmer married Chris Johnson of Port Angeles and Neah Bay, Washington. They raised four children in Lake Oswego: Jeff, Andrea Alexander, Betsy Tulee, Ada May McCormack (d. 2008); seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In 1963, he founded the Franklin Institute of Sales in Portland, Oregon. He was an Athlete, singer, outdoorsman, businessman, and family man. A life lived fully.
Palmer’s services followed by a meal will be Saturday, November 11, 2:00 p.m. at Lake Oswego Methodist Church, 1855 S. Shore Blvd.
