The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts is recruiting visual art instructors for its upcoming summer art camps and ongoing Art Fridays classes at the Newport Visual Arts Center.
Visual artists, educators and those with a passion for teaching young people are encouraged to contact OCCA to discuss the opportunity and to receive an instructor proposal form. March 19 is the next deadline for submitting proposals for the OCCA summer art camps.
“As OCCA expands the youth art opportunities at the VAC, we are also looking to expand our pool of talented visual art instructors,” said OCCA VAC director Tom Webb.
OCCA will present three art camps during July. Instructor openings are available for the July 15-18 camp (9 to 11 year olds) and the July 22-25 camp (12 to 14 year olds). Each art camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with an hour instructor break for lunch. Class sizes are limited to 15 students, and a class assistant is provided. Instructors are compensated based on teaching time and curriculum development. Instructors can make proposals for the entire camp or for breakout or half-day sessions.
OCCA’s fall Art Fridays program will run from October through November, with classes geared toward 10 to 14 year olds. The weekly classes are held from 3:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. at the Newport Visual Arts Center. Instructors can propose single classes or a series of classes focused around a medium or theme.
Interested instructors do not need to be licensed to teach in Lincoln County, though prior teaching experience working with youths is preferable. All OCCA instructors are required to pass a background check.
