Hildegarde Z. Wheeler

Hilda passed away peacefully from complications of a stroke on July 23, 2019 at Avamere Rehabilitation Center, Newport, OR.  She was born in Bentley, ND on October 20, 1923 to Anton and Catherine Zent.  Hilda was the third daughter of four children; Rose, Anna Mary, and then followed a few years later by her brother, Louis.  She attended school and lived on the family farm until her early 20s when she moved to Prosser, WA to spend time with her sister, who was recovering from an illness.  During that time, she met and later married Raymond Wheeler of Prosser.  They were married 46 years at the time of his death.

Hilda and Ray lived in the Prosser area for several decades raising their family before moving to Oregon.  Eventually they settled in Toledo where Ray was employed at Georgia-Pacific as an electrician until his death in 1989.  Hilda is survived by four children; Mary Louise Jones (Steve), Bothell, WA; William (Anita), Siletz, OR; Steven (Bonnie), Aynor, SC and David, Portland, OR; 7 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and sister-in-laws, Burny Wheeler of Prosser, WA and Shirley Zent of Minot, ND.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, her sisters, Rose, Anna Mary and brother, Louis, her parents and other extended family members.

Hilda was a devoted wife and an outstanding mother.  Her kids joked that she did have eyes in the back of her head!  Hilda lived the last two years of her life with her son, Bill, and his wife in Siletz.  She also was an excellent seamstress and was always stylishly dressed.  She also liked to read and she enjoyed drawing and painting.  Animals were her friend, especially dachshunds, but any dog was welcome on her lap and a small donation to the local animal shelter in her honor would be most appreciated.  She will also be remembered for her kindness to everyone and she will be greatly missed by her children and friends.   Hilda had been a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Newport, Oregon.

A Celebration of Life will be at a later date.
