Ham radio operators keep in touch

Amateurs gather for winter field day

NEWPORT — Amateur radio operators celebrated for a full 24 hours during Winter Field Day amid the buzzing of equipment and squelching of frequencies, as they reached out to contact whoever they could wherever they could. From Saturday, Jan. 27 to Sunday, Jan. 28 from 11 a.m. to 11 a.m., a small contingency of vans and recreational vehicles were parked in the city lot at NE Seventh and Harney. Using generators, the operators began to make contact with other groups around the country participating in Winter Field Day.
