People are invited to step back in time and experience a bit of yesteryear on Tuesday, June 18, as the Newport 60+ Activity Center “adventure van” heads to Garibaldi for people to enjoy the Oregon Coast Line by riding the rail behind a historic steam locomotive. The 90-minute round-trip excursion meanders by Tillamook Bay, the Pacific Ocean, Nehalem Bay and through the Nehalem River Valley, and it passes by lakes and panoramic views that can only be seen by rail.
The Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad is a registered, nonprofit museum organization that operates over the former Southern Pacific and Port of Tillamook Bay Railroads. They operate regularly scheduled trains between Garibaldi and Rockaway Beach in the summer months and special event trains throughout the year over the rest of the line.
The cost for this trip is $40 (lunch is not included). The van will be leaving Newport at 7:30 a.m. and will be returning around 5 p.m. Space is limited.
