Sergeant Major Phillip V. Jacques has been selected as the grand marshal for this year’s Newport Loyalty Day Parade, which will take place beginning at noon on Saturday, May 4, along Highway 101 through Newport.
Jacques grew up in Brookings and enlisted in the Army in 1990. He is a veteran of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom and many other overseas operations. He has been awarded both the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. His military training includes Army Ranger, Army Airborne and Army Air Assault Schools, among many others. He currently serves as the Joint Operations Center Sergeant Major of the Joint Domestic Operations Command
For a time, Jacques was stationed in Newport with the Army National Guard. He currently resides in Millersburg with his wife, Rhonda, and their three children.
