Gordon Alfred Mitchell, 89, passed away of natural causes in Newport, OR. He was born in Burns, OR to Walter James Mitchell and Sallie Perry.
Gordon graduated from Newport High School in 1947. On May 12, 1961, Gordon married Phyllis I. Kilmer. His life was full of adventure, including serving as a U.S. Naval Weatherman, Lifeguard at the Officer’s Pool, U.S. Government Trapper, and helicopter mechanic. Gordon continued his service to the community working in maintenance with the City of Newport.
Gordon was a member of the Lincoln Co. Sheriff’s Posse, and the Church of the Nazarene. All through his life, he enjoyed hobbies such as hunting, fishing, trapping, wood working, and reading.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis; children Tammy Sax (Mark), Theresa Kessi (Vernon), Shane Mitchell (Toshia), and daughter-in-law Becky Mitchell; eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sister Connie Cook (Raymond); and numerous nieces and nephews. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Sallie; son Dustin; sister Irene and her husband Orton.
Memorial services will be held at the Newport Church of the Nazarene September 21, 2019 at 1:00P.M. Internment will take place at the Willamette National Cemetary in Portland, OR.
