Ghislaine ‘Geri’ Virginia Cech, 98 of Hillsboro, Oregon passed away peacefully on April 10, 2017. Geri was born to Loma Ethel and James Denton Hicks in Eugene, Oregon on February 13, 1919. Geri had one brother and two sisters.
Following her graduation from Eugene high school, Geri moved to Portland where one of her first jobs was as an usherette at the Paramount Theatre. Geri married Ed Hruby in 1940. Children born to them were a son Denny and a daughter Danielle. Following the dissolution of their marriage, while working at various jobs in the service industry, Geri met and married Orin James (Jim) Cech in ~1956, who had one son Dwayne and one daughter Merrily from a previous marriage. Children born to Geri and Jim were Mike, Mark and Brent.
In the early 70’s, Geri and Jim moved to Newport Oregon where she worked in hospitality positions with various restaurants including the Embarcadero on Newport’s bayfront and Gracie’s Sea Hag in Depoe Bay. In the 80’s, the couple moved back to the Portland area. During this time, Geri worked at the Memorial Coliseum during many of the Trail Blazer games and became friends with her co workers who she fondly thereafter referred to as the “Blazer Girls”. While employed at the Lake Oswego Country Club, at the age of 84, Geri finally retired. Geri was a member of the Aloha American Legion post No 104.
Geri is survived by six children; eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Geri’s hobbies included gardening, cooking, camping and travel. Above all else she cherished friendships and spending time with family.
A celebration of life service will be held for Geri and her daughter, Danielle (see obituary at westsidecremation.com) at the Sherwood Elks, 22770 SW Elwert Rd, Sherwood, OR 97140 on May 13, 2017 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm.
