Freshwater mussels will be talk topic

MidCoast Watersheds Council meets June 7

Freshwater mussels are experiencing a dramatic decline; 72 percent percent of North American freshwater mussels are considered extinct or imperiled, representing one of the most at-risk groups of animals in the United States. Emilie Blevins, endangered species conservation biologist and freshwater mussel lead for the Xerces Society, will address this issue at the next meeting of the MidCoast Watersheds Council. It will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 7, in room 205 at the Newport Visual Arts Center, 777 NW Beach Drive.
