The Oregon Bankers Association (OBA) inducted Fred Postlewait, founder and former president and CEO of Oregon Coast Bank in Newport, into the Oregon Bankers Hall of Fame during the Oregon Bank Leadership Symposium held in December.

Induction into the Oregon Bankers Hall of Fame is the highest honor bestowed peer-to-peer within the Oregon banking community. It recognizes the outstanding contributions inductees have made to the Oregon banking industry, to the OBA and to the communities in which they live and work.

Postlewait started his banking career in 1972 in data processing and operations at Oregon Mutual Savings Bank. In 1979, he moved to The Bank of Newport, where he served in a variety of positions ranging from operations officer to cashier to chief financial officer to interim president and CEO. In 1991, he went to work at National Security Bank, serving as senior vice president and chief operating officer until the sale of the bank to West One Bank.

In 1995, Postlewait founded Lincoln Security Bank, where he served as president and CEO until 2001. That bank was first sold to the Independent Financial Network and ultimately to Umpqua Bank. In 2001, he went on to found and then serve as the president and CEO of Oregon Coast Bank, still headquartered today in Newport. His three adult children all serve in leadership positions at the bank.

Besides being a successful banker, Postlewait is admired for his many accomplishments and contributions to his community. He is a past president of the Yaquina Bay Economic Foundation, past treasurer of the Oregon Coast Aquarium Board of Directors, and former board member of the Lincoln County Historical Foundation, Food Share of Lincoln County and YMCA. Postlewait also gives generously of his expertise, having served as past chairman of the Lincoln County Budget Committee, the Pacific Communities Hospital District Budget Committee, the Lincoln County School District Budget Committee and as a member of the Port of Newport Audit and Budget Committees.

Postlewait has also given his time and talent to the Oregon banking industry, serving as a board member of the Oregon Bankers Association and its subsidiary, Synergy by Association.

During Postlewait’s induction into the Oregon Bankers Hall of Fame, OBA President and CEO Linda Navarro said, “I personally have the greatest admiration and respect for Fred.  I enjoyed every one of our conversations, his authentic and no-nonsense style and his dedication to Oregon community banking. I treasure his support and friendship over the years. He is truly, in every way, the epitome of what the Hall of Fame Award is about.”

Since its creation in 1987, the Oregon Bankers Hall of Fame has inducted 80 individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Oregon banking community and the communities they serve. Postlewait’s induction into the Oregon Bankers Hall of Fame is available for online viewing at
