Newport drivers will have one more option for fueling up this summer. Fred Meyer Stores, Inc., is gearing up to begin construction of a new gas station in Newport this spring and anticipates completing the project this summer, according to Jeffery Temple, director of corporate affairs for Fred Meyer.

“We are excited to be part of this vibrant coastal community and to provide fuel service for our customers,” said Temple.

Temple told the News-Times in December that the company was in working through final due diligence on the site located at the corner of NW 14th Street and Highway 101 — near the Burger King.

“At this time, we are planning for a total of five dispensers,” said Temple, “which means there would be 10 fueling positions, with diesel on all pumps. Also, we will have a limited selection of food, drink and tobacco products for sale.”

This station would be the first Fred Meyer fueling station in Lincoln County. Currently, the nearest Fred Meyer stations are located to the east in Corvallis, to the south in Florence and to the north in the city of Tillamook.

Fred Meyer Rewards members will be able to receive discounts on fuel at the station, using fuel points earned by shopping at Fred Meyer stores anywhere. For more information about fuel savings, visit or stop in at a Fred Meyer location.
